My mom emailed me wondering if the email she got about Teresa Heinz Kerry supporting militant groups was true. I hopped over the snopes.com, the place to check out those emails that keep getting handed around the internet and other urban legends to see the truth. I discovered that is was false. Here is the letter and the snopes comment on the letter.
On another note, I need to reread the transcripts for Edwards speech. It was interrupted several times by a whiny toddler, but what I saw I wasn’t terribly impressed with. He certainly isn’t the orator Clinton is, but he is much less experienced too (of course, if being a good orator determined it, we wouldn’t have a president who mispronounces “nuclear” either). I need to reread it when I am not in an irritated mood though because that might have put a really negative filter on it. I really hope I like Kerry better because I want to have somebody to vote FOR, not just “who ever can beat Bush”.
I did like Teresa Heinz Kerry more than I thought I would. She seems to have a deeper understanding of social issues than I would have ever expected from somebody in her tax bracket. I also loved the “shove it” comment..hee hee. She has some spirit in her! Much different than Cheney who just came off as an ass.
I am a little tired of hearing about his Vietnam service already. It is a good selling point when contrasted with Bush’s cowardice, but I want to hear more about OTHER things too. Clinton had some other things in his speech, so at least I know there is more. I suspect they are pounding that issue because that is the issue most likely to sway swing voters instead of, say, environmental issues.
“In a speech the other day to the Amish, President Bush said that God speaks through him. That’s what he said. I don’t know, do you think God would mispronounce that many words?” Jay Leno
“It’s now being reported that John Edwards’ younger brother, Wesley, turned himself in to the state of Colorado for a warrant relating to a 1993 DUI arrest … This proves Edwards is presidential. Have you noticed that most presidents have embarrassing brothers? Bill Clinton had Roger Clinton; Jimmy Carter had his brother, Billy Carter. You know the embarrassing brother in the Bush family? George.” Jay Leno
“You know I could run for governor but I’m basically a media creation. I’ve never done anything. I’ve worked for my dad. I worked in the oil business. But that’s not the kind of profile you have to have to get elected to public office.” George W. Bush, 1989

I was also unable to see/hear everything because my two darlings were fighting over legos and Thomas the Tank Engine trains during the heart of the Edwards speech. I heard the Obama speech on the radio yesterday and was very impressed – he seems like an idealistic, hopeful, intelligent guy and could possibly be a fantastic leader if he doesn’t become too jaded by the Washington experience.
